Brains And Money Take Hold Endorsement of the movement to place Rutherford county at the top of the purebred" Jersey cattle counties in the United States was given this week by George King of the Franklin pike -one of the foremost Jersey breeders in the county and state When business men begin using their brains and money to help the farmer we may expect great things Mr King said in discussing the campaign to be undertaken in Rutherford county by the Chamber of Commerce which hopes to interest Rotary and Kiwanis clubs and Farm Bureau in the move While every fanner is not fitted and does not have the time to apply to scientific Jersey breeding Mr King is of the opinion that the man who has several registered cows in hfs herd and that herd headed by a bull of the best breeding is on the to increased production and greater profits through the sale of the progeny of his registered animals The value of a good bull cannot be over-estimated Mr King stated bemoaning the fact that Rutherford county breeders had recently allowed several choice sires to slip away from them in dispersal sales and when they were offered bulls at prices that were extermely reasonable Experts have estimated the value of a good sire as high as 75 percent and Mr King says they are not far wrong Recently he had for sale at his place a young bull of Do and Xenia Sultan breeding which Jersey men consider two of the best blood lines obtainable The animal was owned by a Nashville man who in terested in Jerseys and offered to sell him for $500 While Mr JCing was endeavoring to place him with a local Jersey breeder the bull was sbld to an Ohio man who now asks $2500 for him as a three-year-old During the time Mr King had the bull in his possession he was bred to four of the best cows in the Kingland Farm herd and all of the cows had heifer calves These heifers at 14 months of age were sold in the dispersal sale last spring for an average of $350 Such a breeder as that bull would more than pay for his price in a few time Mr King said That the greatest need in Rutherford county at the present is purebred bulls of the best blood lines is the emphatic opinion of Mr King Co-operation with the local organization in staging a Jersey day in the near future was promised by Mr King who said that the American Jersey Cattle Gub officials would also be pleased to assist The formation of the committee
