Statistics show that more than 20 percent of boating-related fatalities are a result of alcohol use. Evidence also shows that sun, wind, noise, vibration and motion intensify the effects of alcohol, drugs and some operators who are operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs. "Our TWRA officers attempt to identify and apprehend impaired operators throughout the year to ensure our waterways stay safe," said Matt Majors, investigator for TWRA's Boating and Law Enforcement Division. TWRA boating officers will saturate high traffic areas on reservoirs across the state.

Along with the use of life jackets and other safety practices, officers want boaters to be aware of the effects and ramifications of alcohol use. While at Siegel, Perkins took several Advanced Placement courses, scoring a 5 on the English Language and Composition exam and a 4 on the U.S. History exam. She also spent two summers teaching English to residents of Peru and was president of the school's National Art Honor Society, selling her paintings online and in local stores. Erin Aliquo, 2012 graduate of The Webb School, is among 34 students who will have artwork displayed at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. The exhibition, to run Nov. 2 to April 21, 2013, will represent the top pieces in the Frist Center's fourth Statewide APIB Exhibition.
